**SCAMMER ALERT**

The Internet is like a watering hole in the desert, especially for art.

In the last few days, I have received a few emails from members who have been contacted by the same or similar people wanting to buy an artwork. The one in question is a person Eugenia Nieves in Oregon, who has contacted a number of members. (She actually scammed one of our members out of 2 paintings plus the shipping using a certified cheque) We all want people to like and buy our art, but when you are handling the sale make sure the money is in your bank before shipping. (NO CHEQUES! or CHECKS!)

This is a reminder that there are unscrupulous people out there that want to scam you for your art and money.

Please note the warning signs:

  1. Do not accept a check or certified check unless you know the person.
  2. If they don't actually mention the art pieces they are interested in
  3. If they do not want to pay via etransfer or PayPal or other secured payment.
  4. Make sure with your bank, that the money is actually in your account before shipping.
  5. You can check on GOOGLE to see if this scammer s name has been posted on the internet.
  6. If they want you to use their delivery service. Use a legitimate courier service. Out-of-country will require a broker.
  7. Some will offer an overpayment to cover the cost and you return the difference
  8. They don't give an address, business, or phone number upfront

Sample Scammer.

Greetings... I am Bennie from Snyder Texas. I have been on the lookout for some artworks lately in regards to my and my wife's anniversary which is just around the corner. I came across some of your works which I found quite impressive and intriguing. I must admit you're doing quite an impressive job. You are undoubtedly good at what you do. With that being said, I would like to purchase some of your works as a surprise gift to my wife in honor of our upcoming wedding anniversary. It would be of help if you could send some pictures of your piece of work, with their respective prices and sizes, which are ready for immediate (or close to immediate) sales. My budget for this is within the price range of $1500 to $5000. I look forward to reading from you in order to know more about your pieces of inventory. As a matter of importance, I would also like to know if you accept check as a means of payment. Regards Bennie
