Wildlife
Winnipeg artist Joseph Koensgen is a nature and wildlife artist. His keen interest in animals, and a passion for nature are brought to life in his paintings.
Being self taught, his inspiration starts with a passion for nature and wild untouched places. He is often venturing out into the wilderness with the goal of simply enjoying what he sees, and then allowing nature to bring about great artistic compositions. His camera then captures the rest, and it is brought back to the studio to help create the paintings.
Over the years this passion has for nature has also turned into a passion for conservation, with the interest in using his art to help protect the wild places that inspire him. In 2018, he had the distinct honour of being named Artist of the Year for the Ducks Unlimited Canada, National Art Portfolio. "I love the relationship I have with DUC. One of my motivations for painting wildlife is being able to raise support for conservation with my art, which I have been able to do through the National Art Portfolio. The high quality prints help bring this message across Canada, as well as bringing my art into many peoples homes. Reaching such a wide audience for both my artwork and conservation, has been made possible with the partnership of Ducks Unlimited Canada."
As he continues to grow his body of work, he hopes to continue to connect people to nature through his art. To share his passion and the importance of nature conservation.
