Melissa Murdoch is an abstract expressionist painter based in Montreal. Her work is best known for its vivid movement and relief textures.
Because of the multiple layers of mixed media paint, the colors and shadows in Melissa's paintings transform as the light changes, offering the viewer a new perspective of each piece.
Artist's Statement: There are patterns in nature. From the micro to the macro, we see the same organic shapes, movements and patterns regardless of what we are looking at. Everything from microbiology to satellite images of our planet and everything in between, appear to me to all follow the same biological patterns and systems to grow and reproduce; including the behavior of all species. I can get lost in this exploration, so I seek to not only represent this “organic patterning”, but also to mimic it. In order to create a genuine representation, I feel as though the process in which I work needs to be follow the similar procedures found in nature; which to me is organized chaos.
