Stone Lithography: commonly used drawing materials

These are the drawing materials used in stone lithography: a tin of paste tusche for water or solvent washes; a bottle of liquid tusche for solid line work; Corn's lithographic pencils for drawing; a grease "rubbing stick" for developing/creating soft areas of tonality; square grease based "conte" sticks for achieving broader lines; various sized soft bristle bushes for applying washes. These materials are also used in traditional plate lithography. All drawing materials are grease based.Lithographic Pencils range from #5 - #1, #5 having the least amount of grease and #1 having the most. In general, you start your drawing using the #5 pencil, then you work through #4, #3, #2 and end with #1. This method of application gradually builds up the tonal values of grease layers on the stone and produces a greater depth of tonality in the image.
