Stone Lithography: leveling the stone

Stone Lithography: leveling the stone

You must constantly check to make sure your stone surface is level. A "true bar" is used and three pieces of very thin paper. The paper is placed under the bar in three spots: one at each end and one in the middle. The "true bar" is a perfectly straight piece of metal that has no nicks or low areas. If the paper can be pulled out at any of these points then the stone is low in this area. You must grain your stone again and adjust the graining so that the high areas are lowered. Once the level is the same horizontally (top, middle, bottom), vertically (top, middle, bottom) and on each diagonal, you can then move onto the next grit size.
