Stone Lithography: preparing the stone for the drawing

In traditional stone lithography the stone needs to be prepared before you can draw upon it. The first step is to grain the stone with a range of carborundum grits. You usually start with 60 grit, then move to 80, 100, 120, 200. This is done by hand using a 30 pound levegator. It usually takes 1-2 days to grain off an old image and level and polish the stone.
