Delicious Deception; outer dress (2012)
This reversible evening gown is, on one level, about materials and processes: the colours and textures are the direct result of the fabric and the manner in which it was dyed. The 'image' on the dress was gained entirely by bundling fresh eucalyptus leaves into the finished dress, then simmering it in a dye bath with rusted metal(iron. On another level the elegance and richness of the dress is intended to reflect the status and qualities of the person wearing it. It is meant to attract attention; to draw a person in for “a closer look”. In essence it, like so much fashion, acts as a “decoy”. It is used to mislead or lure someone into a trap. It also has two “faces”, each one unique with only one face seen at a time. Which face do you revealPhotography: Trent Watts
