Eucalyptus Dreaming: Bridging the Past (2011)

This dress celebrates both past and present. The past is represented by the 4-square dress design created by Madelaine Vionnet, a 20th Century French designer whose innovative and sensuous designs freed the body from the corset. The dress enhances the elongated line of the body and allows the silk freedom of movement. Vionnet's design is fused with the present through Australian artist India Flint's eco-colour dye method, a process which allows full expression of the plant forms used. The use of eucalyptus leaves to create the colour imprints on the silk pays homage to the Australian Aboriginal's Dreamtime. 'Eucalyptus Dreaming' is a celebration of timeless creativity and of our undeniable connection to the Earth.
