Flower Rock (2005)

This piece was created at CollaboratioNZ 2005, Whangarei, New Zealand. 'Flower Rock' demonstrates my first, and very favourable, foray into working with silver. It was Sondi who encouraged me to approach Steven Hayward, a jeweller from Whangarei, NZ to work on a piece together. I had always been 'afraid' to use silver because of it's cost and my unfamiliarity with the metal. It was an exciting experience for me to see my fold-forms taking on a 'new life' in silver. Clay Foster (USA) finalized the piece by mounting the silver Star Folds onto a strong, earthy wood and stone base. There are two variations on a Star Fold in this piece; one fold nestles into the other and both are joined together with a diamond embedded, silver stud.
