The Artist
Ricardo Barrientos, a mixed-media visual artist, based in Toronto, Ontario, was Born and raised in El Salvador and grew up surrounded by creativity.
From a young age, Ricardo was attracted to the arts and spent his time sketching, colouring, and creating different crafts, inspired by the pop culture of El Salvador as well as his Father’s abstract painting style and his mother's interest in crafts.
Ricardo’s work took a short hiatus at the beginning of the new millennium when he transitioned his life to Canada. Influenced by his new surroundings, he soon began to paint again experimenting with watercolours, oil, and acrylic paint, mixed media and graffiti. He began painting at live art demonstrations at various events across the city, creating connections and solidifying his presence in the Toronto art community. Using bold colours, soft flowing lines, and textures he creates abstract images that are fuelled by his passion and imagination.
“I love colour and feel that it has great meaning in our world and the way we see and perceive all the beautiful things in it. I am always looking to incorporate new skills, knowledge, and ideas to my work. My inspiration comes from everything around me, anything that catches my attention including the thoughts and actions of our daily lives. Life itself is a work of art, what better place to start!” -Ricardo Barrientos
