In Persian tradition the Sadrat'u'l-Muntaha is the 'tree beyond which there is no passing'. Originally, apparently, it indicated the point at which it was dangerous to continue into the desert. It has become a symbol of divine teachers, messengers of God, who are as close as we can go in approaching the Creator.
