I was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1965, and was raised in various exotic locales throughout Saskatchewan. Encouraged by my high school art instructor to pursue the world of art I returned to Alberta, for post secondary education in Medicine Hat. After turning my attention from commercial art to sculpture I spent several years doing commisions, honing my skills, skinning my knuckles, and nurturing a love of three dimensional arts.
I like to use a wide assortment of stone with intriguing patterns. Although I consider myself primarily a stone sculptor I will occasionally incorporate various media such as wood and antler. Electric tools are my preference but I will employ pneumatics, sandblasters, hammer and chisel or anything else that will create the desired effect.
If I were to describe my objective in art it would have to be the creation of contrast. The juxtaposition of opposites such as light and dark, positive and negative, cold hard stone and warm yeilding flesh are all components I consider. From solid shades to the elaborately veined revealing the beauty of each individual stone fills me the anticipation of opening a gift. Rendering life into stone is immensely gratifying and is my motivation for a life in art.
