Charity Art Auctions and Donations

Posted: June 14, 2017

Should you participate in a fundraising auction or make an art donation to a charity?

If you have been a practicing artist for a while, it doesn't take long for organizations to find you and present an opportunity to participate in an Art Auction. Supporting causes you believe in is a personal choice and should be yours alone. But it is important to know your rights, tax implications, types of donations, yours and the organizations responsibilities and what you can expect from such participation.

This document has been endorsed by a number of Art organizations including CARFAC Saskatchewan and outlines artists’ rights and responsibilities and those of organizers of fundraising events. It provides explanations of Canada Revenue Agency’s rules for the charitable donation of artwork and artists’ goods. Its intention is to remove uncertainty and exploitation from this financial and presentation resource for both the artist and the user of his or her work. Artists in Canada also approves this document.

The document is a 4 page PDF, so feel free to review it. Full Details
